Speech therapy
If you have a condition that affects your ability to communicate or swallow, the speech therapists at Frio Rehabilitation Center can help.
Our team is dedicated to helping you meet your personal goals and return to your normal activities as soon as possible.
Our speech therapy areas of expertise
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certified speech-language pathologists at Frio Rehabilitation Center will create an individually-tailored treatment plan based on your medical needs.
Our areas of expertise include:
Cognitive-communication. Our speech therapists can help address communication problems related to attention, memory, problem solving and reasoning. This can be particularly helpful for people who have aphasia or who are recovering from a stroke.
Speech and language therapy. Whether you stutter or have another speech impairment, our speech therapists will help you learn how to say sounds correctly and will work with you on phonation, articulation, fluency, resonance and proper breathing techniques.
Our therapists can also help improve your social communications skills, so you’re better able to interact with other individuals and follow appropriate social communication routines.
Swallowing problems (dysphagia). Swallowing problems may include coughing or choking when eating or drinking, or feeling like food or drink gets “stuck” in your throat or pain with swallowing. Our therapists can provide treatments that help restore your ability to swallow normally.
Voice therapy. Common voice problems our speech therapists treat include hoarseness, poor vocal volume and abnormal (e.g. rough, breathy, strained) vocal quality. Our therapists will help you develop proper control of the vocal and respiratory systems if you have a voice disorder.
Speech therapy for kids. Our speech therapists specialize in providing therapy for children. We even have a special area dedicated just to kids. We help children who have language disorders improve comprehension, vocabulary and conversation skills.
Our speech therapists can also help infants and young children who have problems such as:
- Coughing/choking during meals/feedings.
- Difficulty breathing during meals/feedings.
- Recurrent pneumonias and/or recurrent respiratory infections.
- Avoidance of certain textures.
- Difficulty gaining weight or unplanned weight loss.
- Difficulty breast or bottle feeding.
Support for families. Our therapists don’t just treat the person who has the speech impairment. We also teach and train family members so they can better understand their loved one’s needs and provide support at home.
