Eye Surgery

Problems with your eyesight often can be fixed with corrective lenses. With the right pair of glasses or contact lens, what once looked blurry can become crystal clear.

But sometimes vision problems need surgical repair. That’s when you can count on the ophthalmology services available at Frio Regional Hospital.

Conditions we treat with eye surgery

You don’t need to leave Frio County for excellence in eye care. Through the services of ophthalmological specialist Robert P. Green, MD, Frio Regional Hospital is able to provide evaluation and surgical treatment for a number of eye conditions, including:

  • Cataracts.
  • Droopy eyelids.
  • Pinguecula and pterygium (growths on the cornea of the eye).

We have state-of-the-art services to treat you closer to home and, when needed, stabilize and transfer you to another facility with the right level of care.

Eye surgery services we offer

Most eye surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis. That means you will be able to go home the same day, with no overnight stay. Common surgeries we provide include:

  • Blepharoplasty. Also called eyelid lift surgery, blepharoplasty is done to repair sagging or drooping upper eyelids. In some cases, this procedure is done to improve appearance of the eyelids. But at other times the surgery may be needed to improve vision.
  • Cataract surgery. A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that causes blurred vision. Other symptoms of cataract include poor night vision, colors seeming faded, and a halo appearing around lights. Cataracts can occur in either or both eyes. A cataract needs to be removed only when vision problems interfere with activities like driving, reading or watching TV.
  • Removal of eye growths. If pinguecula or pterygium become large enough to interfere with vision or cause discomfort, they can be removed through surgery.

Our staff and Dr. Green will thoroughly review the benefits and risks of surgery prior to your procedure, so you’ll be able to make an informed decision about treatments for your condition
