Description:

As a Cook under general supervision you will prepare, season, and cook a wide variety of meats, vegetables, soups, breakfast dishes, and other food items. Make appropriate quantities while following menus, recipes, and production sheets. Maintain a clean and sanitary work area. Communicate with other production staff regarding menus, recipes and portion sizes and perform other related duties.

  • Responsible for handling and preparing food in accordance with sanitary regulations.
  • Preparing food according to recipes and modifications.
  • Personal judgement and experience must be employed.
  • Plans cooking schedule to have food ready on time.
  • Prepares servings according to requirements.
  • Assists in setting up and filling trays, checks trays before placing in the cart.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment.
  • Serves personnel and special guests, visitors, employees, meetings, etc.
  • Checks trays as they are returned from serving patients for acceptance or the food.
  • Perform other duties requested by food service supervisor and director.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have Food Handler certificate.
  • Experience with food service, food preparation, and/or catering and merchandising, preferably in a hospital environment.
  • Ability to read, write and speak and follow all oral written directions.
  • Be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities and be familiar with seasoning required and cooking time involved.
  • Have firsthand knowledge of cooking characteristics of various cuts of meat and know names and contents of various types of dishes.
  • Be able to make simple estimates relative to quantities of food required.
